Albany is located four and half hours south of Perth. The southern migration season for whale watching in begins in late May and lasts until early October. The season varies significantly depending on activity levels and the passage of the Humpback migration in King George Sound. The Southern Right Whales begin to leave the area with their calves in October. Here are some pointers to see these magnificent creatures when in and around Albany.
The Ellen Cove Boardwalk, Discovery Bay, Marine Drive lookouts, Cheynes Beach, Camp Quaranup, Gull Rock, Bald Head, and Middleton Beach are some of the best places to see whales from the coast.
Bring your binoculars and wear sturdy footwear! Stay away from the cliffs since the seashore is unsafe due to king waves and storm surges.
